Student Empowerment for Environment Development
Girideepam is a member of the SEED (Student Empowerment for Environment Development) Club/Programme started by Mathrubhoomi. The Club has been functioning in our school since 2014 with the objective of instilling in the hearts of the students a love for nature and protection of the environment. It aims at involving students in helping evolve a better society through concern for the environment.
Educating the youth of today is one of the best ways to address the environmental problems, we face this education should be passed onto future generations and would hopefully result in changes to our outlet. The SEED Club of our school, under the effective guidance of Mrs. Prasanna Viswanath has entrusted a special student community who are involved in a wide range of activities throughout the year.
Some of the activities are listed below
- The ‘love plastic programme’ was introduced whereby segregation of plastic waste and recycling these at recyclable units.
- Students are also involved in growing pesticide free vegetable and medicinal plants.
- Classes to bring about awareness in conserving water, management of plastic waste and evolving a pollution free environment were also conducted.
- A 3-day summer Innovation programme UNARVU 2021 was held in Google meet.
- A competition for the UP section was conducted for making useful items from waste materials.
- The programme had motivational talks by eminent personalities, healthy tips for a better living by renowned Doctors and the different recipes made from Jackfruit
The students thoroughly benefitted the classes as they were very much informative and entertaining. The Club has enabled to mould up a student community who are always ready and willing to extend a helping hand with their charitable work. We have also been able to teach social responsibility, empathy and ecological conscience through schools.
The students of this Club are trained to confront the challenges of the present world and to behave as socially committed citizens. They have brought to the attention of the authorities concerned common issues like waste management, deforestation and the collapsing of bridges etc.
Akash B and Hansel Ommen George had been awarded the GEM of the SEED, 2019 and 2020 respectively. Our school was selected as the best school with cash prize and Certificate.
